Material Standards
Cement
Cement shall comply with AS 3972 - 1991 Portland and Blended Cements.
Aggregates
Aggregates shall comply with AS 2758.1 - 1985 Concrete Aggregates.
Admixtures
Admixtures shall comply with AS 1478 - 1992 Chemical Admixtures for Concrete.
Pigments
Pigments shall comply with BS 1014 Pigments for Portland Cement & Portland Cement Products.
Water
Water should be free of injurious quantities of material harmful to concrete.

Pigmentation & Aggregate
Pigmentation and surface aggregate shall be uniform throughout the full thickness of the paving unit.

Surface finish
Surface Finish is to be specified as follows:
- Shotblast
- Milled
- Honed Grit 120
- Honed/Shotblast
- Polished
If a unit is larger than 600 x 600 a Sandblast finish will replace the Shotblast Finish. The exposed aggregate content of the surface should be a minimum of 80 percent and no aggregate should have more than 30 percent of its grading protruding above the surface of the cement matrix.

Dimensions
- Thickness
The thickness of any unit should be within +/- 3mm of the designated thickness, except where honing or polishing is specified as this may reduce the paving nominal thickness.
- Length and Width
The length and width of any unit should be no greater than the overall nominal dimensions and within 1.5mm less than the stated nominal dimensions.
- Draw.
Units should be straight-sided with zero taper.
- Flatness and Bowing
The maximum deviation from a 350mm straight edge, placed in any central position on the wearing surface of each individual unit, should not exceed 3.5mm.
- Chamfer
The arises of the off form paving unit should have a rounded edge with a radius not exceeding the maximum aggregate size used (nominally 4.5mm radius) prior to secondary or tertiary treatment (ie shotblasting or honing).
- Compressive Strength
The minimum twenty-eight day characteristic strength shall be >35Mpa
- Breaking Load
The minimum breaking load of paving units sampled from lots shall be 4kN for 40mm thick units and 5kN for 60mm thick units.
- Slip Resistance
Slip Resistance of new shotblast product shall have a classification of ‘V’ (very low risk of slip when wet).
Slip Resistance of new milled product shall have a classification of ‘W’ (low risk of slip when wet).
Slip Resistance of new honed product shall have a classification of ‘X’ (moderate risk of slip when wet).
Slip Resistance of new honed/shotblast product shall have a classification of ‘W’ (low risk of slip when wet).
- Abrasion Resistance
The Mean Abrasion Index shall be determined in accordance with AS/NZS 4456.9. - Masonry Units and Segmental Pavers - Method of Test, and will be no greater than 3.0 for units to be installed in high volume pedestrian malls.

Chemical Coatings
- Anti-Graffiti
A gloss or matt finish anti graffiti coating should be specified, if required.
- Water proof
A transparent water proof coating should be specified, if required.

Shop Drawings
Precast units will only be manufactured after the client has approved detailed shop drawings.
Note: To help in ensuring the accuracy of quotations it is advisable to submit as much detail as possible in the form of a sketch or drawing. Remember, the less information available the slower the process will be.

Samples
Samples of colours and finishes are available for the clients approval.
Precast units will only be manufactured after the client has approved the colour and finish to be supplied.
Note: If your project has a short lead time allow sufficient time for sample approval. It is better to get precisely what you want, the first time your request is addressed.

Delivery
Delivery to site can be on pallets if size permits or else it will be delivered directly from an appropriate delivery vehicle. Always ensure the matter of how the delivery is to be made is resolved prior to delivery as there may be a need for a crane on site, or other lifting devices.
